Tzadakah

What is Tzadakah?

The Righteous Act of Giving & Quiet Support

Tzadakah is a beautiful and profound Jewish practice that goes far beyond ordinary charity.

It comes from the Hebrew word tzedek (justice or righteousness) and refers to giving generously — including offerings and support to the synagogue — as an expression of justice, love, and faithfulness. It is a way of quietly sustaining the house of worship, its ministries, and its community, because it is the right thing to do.

Tzadakah honors the dignity of both the giver and the receiver. There is never pressure, obligation, or public display. Giving flows freely and privately, protecting the heart of the giver and preserving the honor of the synagogue. It becomes a gentle, sacred act of partnership in God’s work — repairing the world (tikkun olam) through consistent, humble support.

Yeshua’s Teaching

Yeshua beautifully captured this humble and pressure-free spirit of Tzadakah when He taught:

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” — Matthew 6:3-4
